Education:  Western Illinois and seven other schools.  According to Shoemoney, he said that college was a “waste of his parents’ money.”  According to Shoemoney, he barely even graduated high school.  And, if his mother had not been a teacher at the high school, he probably wouldn’t even have graduated from high school.

Shoemoney calls himself a very “hands-on” person.  In reality, he has more of a kinesthetic learning style and is admittedly not much of an academic.

Career:  In 1995, Shoemoney was working at Sears selling washers and dryers.  Someone who knew of his reputation for knowing Macintosh computers offered him the opportunity to work with a start-up internet company.  It was while he was working with this start-up that Shoemoney developed a lot of his server administration skills.  Admittedly, this company that he was working with did a fair amount of spamming.

Shoemoney left the start-up and went back to college, where he wasted more time and worked part-time with an ISP.  Then, he moved back home (Illinois) where he did some web design.  At this point, Shoemoney started building his own sites.

In the late ‘90s, Shoemoney built a gaming site called MacGamer.com and MacQuake.com.  At this point, Other World Computing approached Shoemoney about advertising on his gaming sites.  When the .com crash occurred, Other World Computing terminated the advertising contract with Shoemoney.

Shoemoney was working for a bank in the Molina, Illinois area.  He was working in the securities section.  At this time, he received a good amount of security training.  He was fired from this job.

A friend in Des Moines, Iowa asked Shoemoney to come live with him.  At this point, he accepted a position as the lead security administrator for Wells Fargo Bank.

It was at this point that Shoemoney started working with images for cell phones.  After finding that many people were interested in this service, Shoemoney built NextPimp.com (still in service).  NextPimp enabled a user to upload photos and the images would be formatted for the cell phone.  According to Shoemoney, six months after NextPimp was started, he was formatting in the vicinity of 5,000 images per day.

Shoemoney had lost his job with Wells Fargo.  At this point, he moved to Nebraska and started working with a company called Commercial Federal, as their systems administrator.

It was at this period that Shoemoney started working with Google Adsense.  At this same time, mobile ringtones were coming out.  His NextPimp customers started asking Shoemoney to format ringtones to place on the phone.  Ultimately, NextPimp got up to 150K visitors per day – with Shoemoney’s primary revenue coming from Adsense.

In 2004, Shoemoney started Shoemoney.com.  He also made his first hire, at this time.   In addition, in 2004, Shoemoney initiated a paid membership model on NextPimp.  While working on NextPimp, Shoemoney also entered affiliate marketing.  He started purchasing PPC, and he became more involved with his blog.  He is well-known for being very transparent about his business.

In 2004 and 2005, federal regulation entered into the ringtones industry, which had a significantly negative impact on NextPimp.

In 2006, Shoemoney met with representatives from Ebay at the Webmaster World conference.  They suggested that Shoemoney should sell ads on his own site and cut Google out of the picture.  At this point, Shoemoney developed his Auction Ads company.  At the same time, he started selling ads on Shoemoney.com.

Ultimately, Shoemoney sold Auction Ads to Media Whiz.

Since the sell of Auction Ads, Shoemoney’s blog has experienced tremendous success and a tremendous growth in traffic.  He also has a very successful podcast.

In addition, Shoemoney started his annual “Elite Retreat”.  And, in 2008, he opened up “Shoemoney Tools”, a collection of SEO and SEM tools designed to help online marketers.
